Chemical FAQ
How do I treat an Algae Bloom?
Add 1 lb. of Super Shock-It per 10,000 gallons through the skimmer and 8 oz. of E-Z CLOR Mustard Algae Plus per 10,000 gallons around the pool perimeter.
Let the pool run for 24 hours.
If the pool is still not clear after 24 hours, add 1lb. of Super Shock-It per 5,000 gallons every day until you are holding a 1-3ppm chlorine reading. Make sure you brush the algae off the walls and vacuum every day
How much sustain do I add to my pool?
Add one Sustain 3-inch tab per 10,000 gallons into the adjustable skimmer dispenser and one 8 oz. scoop of Sustain Energizers per 5,000 gallons directly into the skimmer basket. Utilize both skimmers if applicable.
Why won't my pool hold Chlorine?
If there is algae bloom present, you will need to shock your pool with 1 lb. of Super Shock-It per 5,000 gallons through a skimmer every day until the water is clear.
Check your stabilizer level. The ideal stabilizer level is between 60-80 ppm to maintain a 1-3 ppm chlorine level. If your stabilizer level is too high, it will eat the chlorine in your pool. If that’s the case, a portion of the water will need to be drained and refilled.
Bring a water sample into the store if the first two steps do not apply. We can check for nitrates and phosphates, which can both eat away at your chlorine level.
My water turned green after I added chlorine.
If your water has changed color, this means that there was a reaction to metals or minerals in your pool. When chlorine or any balancing chemicals are added to water with metals in it, the water color will change.
You will need to lower the chlorine level to 0 ppm using Chlorine Eliminator.
Run the pool for 24 hours.
Test the pool water after 24 hours; once the chlorine level has officially reached 0 ppm, add 1 qt. of E-Z CLOR Metal Magnet per 10,000 gallons around the pool perimeter or in front of one of the pool returns.
Let the pool run for 48 hours without adding any chemicals to the water.
To ensure that the metals are out of your pool, take a bucket of water from the pool and add a tablespoon of Super Shock-It to the water.
Let the water sit for a few hours, as reactions can take several hours. If the watercolor doesn’t change, add 8 oz. of E-Z CLOR Mustard Algae Plus per 10,000 gallons around the pool perimeter and 1 lb. of Super Shock-It per 5,000 gallons through the skimmer. Continue to add your balancing chemicals as directed. If the water color changes even the slightest, you will need to add another bottle of E-Z CLOR Metal Magnet to the pool.
