D.E. FAQ

Why is D.E. blowing back into the pool?

If D.E. is blowing back into the pool, this means that one or more of the D.E grids has a tear(s) in it. Take out the D.E. manifold and inspect it. You can replace just one of the grids at a time. Depending on the age of the grids, it may be beneficial to replace all of the grids.

Why is water coming out of my backwash hose?

If you have water coming out of your backwash hose, you will need to replace the spider gasket that is located under the multiport handle. You will need to remove all the screws and the keyway assembly; the gasket will be located underneath. Every multiport has a different size and design for a replacement, so you will need to get the part number before coming into the store to buy a new one. A silicone adhesive will need to be applied to the bottom of the spider gasket before it is put back into the multiport body. For a temporary fix, you can put a ball valve on the backwash port of the multiport to stop the water from draining out.

How much D.E. do I add to my D.E. filter?

D.E.2400- 3lbs

D.E.3600- 4.5lbs

How do I clean my D.E. Grids?

To clean your D.E. grids, you will need to get a large plastic barrel, fill it with water, and add a filter cleaner (read the instructions on the box for the correct dosage). You will need to soak the grids for at least 24 hours and then power washes them. Make sure you don’t put the power washer too close to the grids as this may cause them to rip or tear.

Why is my pressure gauge reading high?

The filter needs to be backwashed or the D.E. Grids need to be cleaned.

How do I backwash my D.E. Filter

  1. Turn off the power to the pump.

  2. Move the multiport handle to the “Backwash” position, always moving the handle clockwise.

  3. Turn the power to the pump back on.

  4. Backwash for 60 seconds or until the sight glass is clear.

  5. Turn the power to the pump off again.

  6. Move the multiport handle to the “Rinse” position for about 10 seconds, no more than 30 seconds.

  7. Turn the power to the pump back on.

  8. Turn off the power to the pump again and move the multiport handle back to the “Filter” position.

  9. Turn the power to the pump back on.

  10. Repeat this process a total of three times to sufficiently clean up used D.E.

If backwashing doesn’t work, you will need to pressure wash the grids and soak them in a filter cleaner for 24 hours, or we can pick up your grids for a D.E. grid cleaning.
